Mary-Margret @ the Movies

I want to talk some more about movies....
My last post was more about guilty pleasure movies. I know you want to all talk about the drag movies like To Wong Foo, Priscella, Hedwig, etc... and they are all fun to watch. So here goes my list. Number one:

"Rockey Horror" is still my all time drag movie. Second place probably goes to "Breakfast on Pluto."

with Colin Murphy playing an Irish tranny caught by accident in the civil war during the 70's while trying to find her mother. Coming in third would be "Stage Beauty"

about a Shakespearean actor/actress played by Billy Crudop who has to overcome women becoming actors and taking away his job as a female lead. The carriage scene is amazing.

I just saw a movie this week which doesn't fall into the drag category so much but is more along the line of gender swapping. It's called "Zerophilia"....
The premise is about a fictitious condition where a person has an extra chromosome, a "Z" chromosome which causes them to change gender much like an amphibian or a seahorse can. The story involves three characters who have the condition. The main character is a teen boy, about eighteen, struggling with the discovery. His friends are all help full and one other Z person is trying to get involved but the main character, Luke, is oblivious to that his girlfriend and boyfriend are the same person. The doctor helping him is also a Z and is using Luke for her own agenda. I was captivated by the film because it is the ultimate fantasy for me... to be able change genders at will. What a great superpower. Here is a little clip from the movie...

There is still one film that has not been made that I would love to see. As you know, I love comic book films. I will be going out this weekend to see the Dark Knight Rises after all. But the movie I would love to see made is based on a graphic novel by Howard Chaykin, called "The Black Kiss". It was written in the late 1980's. It takes place in LA. It is a great story of the occult and has a band of characters including an ex con, a paedophile priest, a golden age movie starlet turned demon, a tranny prostitute, a blind schoolgirl, a bunch of dirty cops, some satanic swingers, a nun in stiletto heels, and many more. They all get mixed up together and stuff happens (you'll have to read it, I don't want to give too much away). Howard's art work is so amazing, it works as a perfect story board for a film. I already have a dream cast for every character in the story. I may need another post just to detail that. In the meantime, here are some samples from the graphic novel....

In addendum... Even though no one is making a film of "Black Kiss" yet, Howard Chaykin has just began releasing the sequel to Black Kiss, Black Kiss 2. I picked up issue #1 last week. Issue #2 is out but it has been banned in Canada (so you know it has to be good)
