At least I know enough to not call my next book Interstellar. I have been working on this book for over two months now. At this point, I am 75 pages on paper and just over the halfway point. I still haven't come up with a working title yet. It began with an idea that's been stuck in my head for years. I haven't sat down to write it until recently because it doesn't fit nicely into my usual format of short story genre. I have been praised for stories that were realistic with identifiable characters. The action is mostly erotica and with transvestite and bisexual themes.
My new story goes away from a lot of that. I hope to still keep my characters realistic but I have wanted to this science fiction story. I started by making some images which turned into story boards. I then sat down and began hammering out the story. It is journey that leads the main character away from earth on an interstellar mission. When the movie trailers for the recent film "Interstellar" came out not long ago, I thought, "This has some key elements that are similar to my story. This may hurt my publication as people will think that I am ripping off the movie or it could help me as people may be interested by the film and look for more on the same theme."
After watching the film, I am not worried anymore that the two stories may be too close. In the movie, earth is decaying and the human race is facing extinction. The "Interstellar" journey was to locate a habitable planet to colonize. My story is more about an adventure seeker solving the riddle of interstellar travel and finding another civilized system. The main character, which I base on myself, then struggles to adapt to the new world and tries to find a way to "fit in" with the people of the new system during their war of survival. Of course I lace my story with heavy doses of erotica too.
I liked the title Interstellar. It may have made a good title but obviously I will have to come up with something different.
In case you missed them on my tumblr page, here are some of my story board renderings that I made to inspire my story...
Here are a few teaser excerpts from my current draft....
I shot her a death cold stare. Krista had slipped up. I wasn’t sure if anyone else had caught it either. She quickly realized her mistake and retracted promptly. “What I mean is, back when I was on Terra, there was this enemy who used to do something like that with animals to try to frighten us. You wouldn’t know of course but it was similar to this.” Pretty good catch Krista. I casually looked about to see if anyone suspected anything. Everyone was fixated on the Archnid carcass and I released a deep breath of relief. No, Colonel Scarlett Callahan was a Callaighly, and she never would have been outside this system. Only Krista and I knew that I had a much deeper history and a huge secret. I was more than meets the eye.
After Becky finished getting her grand father to bed in a room off of the main living area, she returned to where I was sitting on the comfortable leather couch, enjoying an after dinner scotch. It was late August and the sky was getting dark. The starts would soon be out in full. The noises from the plant below diminished to a low drone. I knew that I would only have a few days up there before having to return to Kingston to go back to my teaching job. Becky filled a glass with ice water and sat down across from me.
I asked her about herself. It turned out that Becky was not as ditsy as she came across. She was well versed in astronomy. It turned out that she twenty-four which was four years older than she looked. She kept a vegan diet and practised yoga every day. That accounted for her tight body and youthful appearance. She claimed to also possess a massage therapy licence. Becky lost both of her parents from lung cancer before she was twelve. She helped care for her ailing grandmother too until she past away two years before. Looking after her grandfather was a full time job for her.
I unlocked the door and smiled for Krista. She was carrying an Army duffle bag over her shoulder. She was wearing a leather jacket over a tight black sweater and a pair of jeans. She let her self in. “Bout fucking time. Were you beating off to Rudolf or pinching a loaf?” she asked if one of those answers was the correct answer.
“Come on in, make yourself at home,” was all I said as she dumped her bag next to my couch. She went back to the door.
“Where are we Mai?” I asked. She took a reading of the most previous view. And another in the opposite direction. She posted a 3D map of the galaxy on the screen.
“As of that last screen, we appear to be here,” she pointed out on a path between Sol and Alpha Centauri. “We appear to have traveled 0.002 parsecs from Sol. We are still accelerating but that will diminish after some time until we get closer to Centauri system,” Mai added.
“That’s our Sun over there,” Becky pointed out on the screen. It was just a tiny light like all the other stars. It looked so far away.
“That’s right,” Mai told the blonde girl. “Girl knows her stars,” she directed at me.
The half dozen human type bodies were being eaten by the bugs. “I want to get down there,” I told Lydia. The ship that was intact but damaged had several of the bugs crawling all over it. Five human type creatures emerged from a hatch on the side of the ship and began firing what looked like hand held weapons at the bug like creatures. Their weapons were not overly effective but at least a couple of the bugs were stopped and immobilized. One of the humans was quickly overrun and devoured by the bugs. “Dmitri, ready the space suits. Krista, rifles. Nathan, Nancy, Bonnie and Jason, meet us at the exit ramp,” I ordered. “Tracy, take the bridge. Put us on the edge of that rock.” I rushed with Krista down to the exit chamber. We donned our space suits and the five of us armed ourselves with AR-15 rifles with the 203 grenade launchers. Still watching the monitors as we suited up, I could see another of the humans going down under the bugs attack. The others seemed to kill off one more bug but they were still pursuing the humans. “Hurry, get us down,” I ordered.
One of my junior staff officers was a tall, leggy Callaighly Lieutenant named Scarlett Callahan. In my opinion, she was the perfect specimen of womanhood. Her curves were perfectly placed. Her red hair was hypnotic. She had a light spattering of freckles. Her eyes were hazel and beautiful. In a solar system of beautiful woman, she stood out. I found it difficult to speak to her as I would get all choked up. Callahan would note my distress and ask if I required a doctor. She seemed repulsed by me even though she respected my authority.

Tournament 2
Tournament 2,
Some of you might remember back to the spring when I had a 32 seed super-heroine/ comic characters bracket tournament. It looked like this...
Mary Marvel was the overall champion...
I made 32 brackets and about 68 images which were posted over a two month period. As soon as I was finished it, I immediately thought of ways to improve on it. First of all, was the selection of characters. I admit that I used the characters that I had already made. At first, I considered a 16 seed bracket because I didn't have a lot of superheros drawn. I had a full slate of Gotham characters which made a nice 8 seed bracket. I also had 4 other DC super heroines and six Marvel characters. That meant I would have to go with 32 seeds. I had a bunch of Originals that I used to make half a bracket (Dumb Bunny, Fabulass, Ice Queen, True North) and topped it up with movie characters, Baby Doll from Suckerpunch, Hitgirl from Kick Ass, and Barbarella. I added a She Predator as a stretch to round up the group. I had Supergirl, Wonder Woman (UK), Mary Marvel and Isis from DC comics. To fill in the brackets, I added the Dirty Pair who are Dark Horse characters and Taarna and Medusa as a big stretch. My Marvel group had 5 solid characters, even though Spinderella was a bit of an OC as was Lady Punisher. I then added Vampirella and Red Sonja who are from outside of Marvel just to fill the brackets. All the pics can be seen in my Gallery Folder called "Tournament"
The OCs were not very popular in the tournament and I regretted having to stretch to fill in so many brackets. I really wanted a full on DC vs Marvel tournament. I got to work drawing more characters. In my new tournament, it will be 16 DC and 16 Marvel super-heroines and villains. Here is a look at the brackets...
I will be keeping the Gotham bracket alive on the DC side and a lump of 8 other DC characters in the other bracket. The Gotham bracket is almost the same but I dropped the female Joker and added Robin instead (Robin has always been femme to me). I dropped Isis too, because she was a short lived character from the 1970s and the name has an unfortunate association now. I also changed up the other three a bit. Wonder Woman will be more traditional, as will Supergirl. Mary Marvel is the defending champ and decided to up her game for all the new heavy hitters coming in. You'll see. The new additions will be Power Girl, Star Sapphire, Hawk Girl, Cheetah, and Zatanna.
On the Marvel side, I decided to keep Spinderella. I never liked Spider Woman and Mary-Jane Watson in the spider suit looks awesome. I did dump Lady Punisher though. I kept Black Widow, and a more traditional Valkyrie. I added She Hulk, Ms Marvel, Scarlett Witch, Elektra and Invisible Woman. Storm and X-23 get moved to a new exclusive X-Men Bracket. Along with those two, the X-Men Bracket will have Rogue, Dark Phoenix, Mystique, White Queen, Shadowcat, and Psylocke. The X-Men bracket will be similar to the Gotham one as it will feature 4 heros vs 4 villains in the first round.
I have the character sheets ready and will start posting them soon. I still have to do the actual match up pictures which could take a while. I hope you all enjoy my indulgence.

Sokol's Kitten with a whip
In a previous post called "Early influences" from a couple of years back http://marymargretcallahan.blogspot.ca/2012/08/early-influences.html I posted this picture, artwork by Richard Sokol from 1969 or 1970 that appeared in Playboy magazine.
It was such an influence that I dedicated my latest IMVU rendering set to this character. She doesn't have a name but I picture a sixties Anne-Margret as the personality.
I was pleased at the outfit and the model. I was hoping to recreate the picture but the room and the male clerk proved to tough for me.
Thanks for indulging with me.

The Hiatus
I know... long time no post. For those of you following my health status, here is an update. I am completely recovered from the tyroidectomy. The scar is healing nicely and is barely visible. My post surgery check up showed no signs of any cancer remaining in me. So Yah!
The entire ordeal has made me re-examine my whole life and think deeply about all my life choices. I have a lot of other things going on and as I re-prioritize things, I plan to focus on some of the other stuff. Does this mean that I am finished as a crossdresser? No. I don't think that its possible to walk away completely but I am taking a step back.
So far I have got rid of the majority of my female clothes and things. I had a walk in closet full of shoes, clothes, makeup, wigs and accessories. I scaled back to just one small bag of stuff, much like I had back in the beginning. I don't know when or where I will be dressing up next but I am putting no pressure on myself to do so.
In the meantime I am doing art projects, and writing stories again. I am maintaining all my Mary-Margret on-line pages so I am still my femme self in that respect. I doubt that will ever change.
So don't be sad. I am not gone and not going anywhere, just a smaller version of myself.
Special thanks to all of you who kept my spirit up during my fight with cancer. It was a challenging time and the love and support is what got me through it. So thank you very much.
Hopefully some new upbeat and fun posts will follow soon.
Hugs and Kisses,
Mary-Margret

Military LGBT
Lately I have been seeing a lot of images and references to "Gay Military" people. One that stood out was an episode of Two Broke Girls on CBS. The point of it all is a conception by straight people that the military is full of gay people or it is a place that creates gay people. The point of non-straight people being in the military doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I am proud of that. The part that gives me grief is the misconception that the military has a higher percentage homosexual population and that non military people make a big deal of referencing it.
I was in the Army for fifteen years. Yes, there are gay, bisexual and lesbian people in the military. There are gay, bisexual and lesbian people outside the military too. Get over it. Why are people making a big deal about it? Here is why...
The military has always been a macho, tough organization, no matter what country you live in. Why? Military people have to do tough jobs and when it comes to conflict with another country, you want your enemy to fear you. You don't want your enemy to think that you are soft or weak. This is the reason that for centuries, armed forces have restricted homosexuals from their ranks as well as females from combat roles. It was never a question of whether or not they could do their duty but a concern over appearance. The one story that was always floating around back in the day to reinforce this was, "If you were being held captive by the Tonton Macoute, who would you want to come to your rescue; the politically correct, gay friendly, women included forces of some UN nation or the fucking French Foreign Legion?" That made a point. Would anyone care if half the hair dressers at the salon are gay? No. What about half of the Army? Yes, it's perception.
Where this falls off is the notion that any armed force is 100% straight; even in the fucking French Foreign Legion. Military commanders will deny or argue this to save their own face because of the perception of weakness again. Everyone wants to be the strongest. The argument itself is unsound. Prove to me that women or homosexuals are weaker. Women can give birth to 10 pound babies. What is tougher than that? Alexander the Great conquered half the known world and it was well known of that he was bisexual and kept male concubines with him on campaigns. So the argument really has no basis.
Regardless, modern day western military organization have been forced to accept gay persons in their ranks. They have always been there but now they don't have to hide. It wasn't so easy not long ago. When I joined up in 1984, homosexual behaviour of any kind was unacceptable and punishable with dismissal with disgrace. You had to swear on oath before being enrolled that you 100% straight. That same year a group of eight female air force personnel were rounded up and publicly shamed and booted out for having a party, off base, on their own time involved lesbian activity. When I had been in for about a year, it was evident that there were lots of non straight people in the military. I estimated that about a third of the women were bi or lesbian. It was well known that the Navy was good place to be if you were a gay man. I myself was well aware that I was bisexual and had a penchant for wearing women's clothes but I towed the line as was required and kept it to myself.
This hypocrisy that we lived with took its toll on many people. I knew lots of other non straight people and kept their secrets as I kept my own but still many were caught and charged and subsequently thrown out. It was a shame and a waste of many good people. The breaking point for me was while on an operation in a foreign country. It was a hot zone with live ammo and combat involved. My days were a flurry of keeping track of who killed who and how many. It was also about survival. Many people I worked with received injuries and some were killed. One day I receive a report that one of my people was being formerly charged for being homosexual. It was one of my best people. I knew that she was gay but I never cared. Somebody else thought it was important and filed the charge. I fought tooth and nail to keep my soldier but the system claimed her. One night in the mess I had a word with the Brigade General about the matter and my displeasure over it but he told me that nothing would have happened if she hadn't been so obvious. It was a matter of perception.
Only a year after that incident, our military had to adopt the Charter of Human Rights which meant that homosexuals could no longer be discriminated against even in the military. There were a lot of redresses and some people who had been thrown out had good cases for reinstatement or legal action. It in no way changed the number of non-straight personnel in the military. It just meant that people no longer had to hide the fact. Women were also given access to combat roles. It changed perception. Most other western nations have followed suit in some ways. Do our enemies think of us as weaker now?
Its this new openness and social media that has shown the world that there are plenty of gay, lesbian and bisexual people in military organizations everywhere but are there really a higher percentage of non-straight people in the military compared to outside. Truthfully, not likely. It is probably proportional to the rest of society. The fact that it is accepted in the military puts those people in a spot light for all to see. Military people live, eat, sleep and fight with each other 24/7 so secrets are almost impossible to keep. There is virtually no closet left in the military. People in average society could have half a dozen non-straight people working within a hundred feet of them at their office and might not know their preferences. Thicker closet walls exist.
The fact that people are still making a fuss about it at all shows the real problem with society; their priorities. The best thing about an accepting military policy is that allows that service to focus on what really matters like getting the job done and fighting the good fight instead of running around on witch hunts for gays within the ranks. Had the same policy been in place on that operation that I spoke of, I would have had my best Sargent with me the whole time and not had to waste time with a trial and been able to better perform my duties keeping track of who killed who and how many. Seriously, who cares who you like to have sex with when mortar bombs are dropping on your head or a twelve year old is aiming an AK-47 at you. Priorities!
This is why military people, particularly those who have experienced combat are far more accepting of non straight people today. It's about priorities. We know that there are far more important things in life than who someone wants to have sex with. If the guy next to you is putting his life on the line to keep you alive that you are happy to hug him, shake his hand, share lunch, be his friend and you could give a shit if he has a boyfriend or husband. In fact, you would be supportive of him. People in the civilian world can't say the same thing about the person in the next cubical. It is misplaced priorities.
In many ways military organizations have jumped past the rest of society in this. Does it mean that everything is all better now? No. Is there still hazing and homophobia in the military? Yes. There still is in regular society too. The military is just better at dealing with it now. Back in the day, abuse of gays was accepted if not encouraged and homosexuality was a chargeable offence. Now, homosexuality is accepted and abuse against one is a chargeable offence.
When I think back to people that I worked with who were homophobic, abusive to gays, who were involved in the witch hunts, I want to confront them again face to face. I'm not looking for any type of revenge or to even vent. All I want is to ask if they trusted me with their lives. Did they always have faith that I had their back? Were they glad that I was looking out for them? Then I would tell them how much I love cross dressing.
